Sacramento in a Day
Living in California for 12 years and I realized there are still so many parts of the state I still have yet to visit. I’ve been so focused on exploring the world over my own state, which is kinda crazy. Who knew that being stuck in a quarantine where flying wasn’t really an option would make me decide to do that. I guess there is one silver lining to all the things going on in the world. Sigh… Anyway, I’ve become more and more comfortable doing things alone and knowing that it’s ok to do it alone. It’s a little refreshing because I can just come and go as I choose without thinking of anyone but myself. So I got up, got dressed and headed out the door for my hr and a half hour drive to Sacramento with only a few ‘goals’ in mind for the day. Wander around, go to a farmers market, pick up some more plants & check out all the murals I can.
Driving into Sac in-amongst all the buildings was actually a nice familiar feeling. It has such a different city scape from SF but yet it actually felt comfortable. Pulling off the freeway and on to the first stop of the day, Midtown Farmers Market. On a side note there are honestly a lot of different farmers markets scattered around Sac but for some reason this one drew my attention the most. Fingers crossed I’ll be back again and see some of the other markets. The Midtown Farmers market was super small and cute, I wouldn’t expect to spend too much time there either way I came away with a bouquet of flowers, lots of fruit and veggies! Even had some cute little jewelry and clothes stands. But if you get hungry there are plenty of dine-out restaurants you could choose from just on either side of the market. Dont forget to practice social distance and wear masks (they make that very clear upon entering the space).
I tried walking around the neighborhood to explore all the murals that were there but man it was so hot that I couldn’t handle it, so I hopped back in my car and drove around instead! Making stops at so many cute murals before making my way to Propagate to see what plants I can bring home.
I did a little drive around looking for something to eat and honestly there was so many places to choose but since I'm just so unfamiliar with places and well lets be honest it's been challenge knowing what's open during covid and what isn't. So i eventually drove past this cute brewery, Alaro Brewing, and decided to park and eat there (it was getting rather late and I was in need of some much needed food and a nice refreshing beer to cool down from the 100+ degree weather). Seriously can't believe how warm it was and with everything being outdoors it was rough! Around Alaro brewing there were a few other cute restaurants and breweries some only doing take out and others with some outdoor patios.
After a much needed cool down and sprinkle from the little misters in the backyard! Seriously thank god Sac is used to the heat and know how to kinda combat it, haha. I headed to yet another plant shop! Plant Daddy Co., the place that really got me in my car to head on over to Sac. The building has a stunning mural painted on the exterior painted by Haley Titus Studio as well as a few other 'insta' worthy things inside. So it's obviously the combination of two of my favorite things, plants & colorful murals! hehe!
Not quite ready to head back to SF I made a pit stop for a tea and drove around mural hunting, again. Found this super cute coffee shop, Insight Coffee, as well as a load of murals!
Last but not least I couldn't go home without seeing the Capital building so drove on over and walked around the park to check out the beautiful building before getting back in the car to head home. Honestly a perfect little escape from the day.
Hopefully you found this kinda helpful or interesting. I've listed a few other places/restaurants etc. you can do in Sac that I can't wait to go check out again next time I'm in Sac.
