A Quick trip to Copenhagen

As my friend and I head back from our trip to Iceland we chose a flight that had an extra long layover and the last time I went to Copenhagen I was 16 years old so it was really nice to come back as an adult and on my own! So if you’re looking for a quick trip in Copenhagen then you’ve come to the right place!!

STAYING AT THE Hotel Bethel

When you land in Copenhagen grab a taxi or head on over to take the train into downtown Denmark. If you purchase your train ticket at the airport you shouldn’t have to buy a public transit card which is about $8. The Taxi is about $50 and was really easy to just get dropped off at our hotel.

This hotel was so unbelievably convenient just right off the water and surrounded why so many restaurants. The cutest little room.

colorful danish houses on the river with a few boats

Dinner at Hyttefadet

Since I knew we had such a short time in Denmark I knew I wanted to eat all the Danish food I could before leaving! I had two dishes I was really hoping to eat while here and I was on the hunt for them, stegt flask (fried pork belly) & frikadeller (Danish meatballs) So We asked the hotel front desk where we should go that had good Danish food and we made our way to Hyttefadet and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. My recommendation would be to grab yourself a Danish beer and "STEGT FLASK" which is the National Dish of Denmark and something I grew up eating as a kid. It’s fried pork belly served with potatoes and parsley sauce, so how can you go wrong!!

Drinks at Library Bar

Then after dinner either head back to your hotel or make your way over for drinks at Library Bar were you’ll enjoy some delicious cocktails!

Grab breakfast at Joe & the Juice

For those of you that didn’t know that Joe & the Juice originated here in Copenhagen! It was created in 2002 by Kaspar Basse who was inspired by Starbucks & other cafe’s in clothing stores it obviously evolved from there. (to read more go here) Grab a juice or snack at the nearest Joe & the Juice which was just a few minute walk from the hotel before continuing on your way.

Walk over to The LIttle Mermaid & Kastellet

Take your juice and snack on your 20 minute walk towards The Little Mermaid which is a really pretty little walk and a perfect way for us to stretch our legs before getting on our flight later this afternoon. We stumbled upon a church and just enjoyed walking past so many pretty buildings and the water.

After walking around The Little Mermaid for a little bit then make your way over inside the Kastellet where you can just stroll around and enjoy the gorgeous blue skies and bright green grass and enjoying some more stunning views.

Stroll the Streets

After leaving Kastellet and the park, make your way to Rosenborg Slot & the King’s Garden created in the 17th century which is absolutely stunning with all the trees lining everything and if you’re lucky flowers blooming. If you have time and the Rosenborg Slot is open make your way inside and explore. We were there on a Monday and found out that a lot of things were closed including the Rosenborg Slot. But don’t worry that didn’t stop us we continued on our stroll through the streets towards the Round Tower & Trinitatis Kirke (church).

Go inside the Church and admire the architecture and stunning organ before making your way inside the Round Tower to see the incredible views of Copenhagen! You pay the enter the tower right inside the tower before you make your way to the top.

After exploring inside the church and the Round Tower we headed onto our next stop and stumbled upon this super cute glass gift shop. I kinda had a vision of wanting to buy some cute new mini vases and when you wish it comes true!! I’m big on manifesting. Anyway, Studio Arhoj has the most incredible pieces in it and it was hard to choose just ONE so if you’re looking for a more unique gift to take home with you go check them out as everything is all custom made and no two things are alike!

Lunch at Tivolihallen

After wandering around and checking out the epic views I’m sure, just like us you’ve created an appetite! So make your way over to another Danish restaurant Tivolihallen and grab yourself some meatballs with cabbage & pickles aka, frikadeller and even a beer. It was honestly so delicious and also reminded me of my grandma’s frikadellers!

Explore Tivoli Gardens

We didn’t have time and it was closed but highly recommend taking a look and spending sometime in the gardens and enjoying the amusement park before making your way back to the hotel and catching your flight home!

Honestly such a fun very short trip and happy I’m so grateful and happy we were able to make this long layover work before heading home! Hope this quick itinerary helped inspire you and get you excited about visiting Denmark!
